Rep. Paul Graves’ speech on the Day of Remembrance

Rep. Paul Graves, R-Fall City, pays tribute to Japanese-Americans interned in camps under Executive Order 9066 during World War II. Washington state became the first state in the nation to honor their sacrifice with the Day of Remembrance, recognized each year in February.

“We live in a country not formed on the basis of tribalism, on the basis of class, on the basis of race, but on the basis of ideals. Ideals which we have certainly not always lived up to, but ideals which we nevertheless claim to hold and which serve as a north star.”
